I think that it would be cool to watch Sumo Bots. I'm just wondering, how do they organize that? Do they just make a bracket and every team participating stays in the area to wait for their turn? Or can you go away from the area and to other events? Do you get a time slot? (lots of questions)

our one regional trial event was biology blitz, which focused on identifying animals/plants/protists by their kingdom, phylum, or class, and common name along with a couple of questions (w. pictures of course)
our two state trial events were: Rock My World, and Forestry Quest.
Rock my world: I didn't get into the details of this event, but I did read over the rules, an event about deep-coastal ocean oil drilling.
Forestry Quest: parts of different trees were given, or pics, and were asked questions/to ID.
Nerds rule. Nerds are awesome. Nerds will someday (soon) rule the world. And you know it.

I don't get it...why are they called trial events if they count towards the final score?

They don't count for final score in other states. I wonder why they count in NY.

Really? I don't get why they would do that. Isn't the point of a trial event to see how an event would do without counting towards the final score?

Well, in NY (and evidently in NJ, and who knows what other states), the point of trial events is to see if an old event is worth reviving, or if a new event can handle being a real event. I think the choice of trial events is pretty stringently reviewed, so they're usually not too bad.
