Two back wheels are not on a separate axis. They are attached to the motor and each other through a series of gears that includes a differential to allow for smooth turning
What do you mean by a differential in the gears for smooth turning?

My transmission has a differential that allows the wheels to spin at different speeds while maintaining a constant sum (right wheel speed + left wheel speed = sum)

Not windu, but 99.999% sure you can't get that from anywhere; he made it p sure
You are correct, I used carbon fiber rods and 3d printed parts to construct the chasis
Sorry, I ineffectively communicated my question. I was referring to the differential assembly.

I purchased that at a local r/c store

Hey Windu,

Are you using some sort of Bellcrank steering mechanism? Also, what are the functions of the other structures near your front axles, aside from the steering mechanism?

Thanks!

I had my first competition today (Islip Invites) and placed 1st in EV with a time of 2.9 seconds and was off by 2.1 cm. I also did the bonus with the cans being about 23 cm apart (I don't think anyone else at the competition attempted the bonus). I think the final score was around -12.

Congrats Bazinga on your impressive score!

Quick question for Windu - what is the motor-looking-thing attached to your rear wheel in the CAD assembly? What is its function and is another one attached to the other rear wheel?

Also... Your rear wheels are still connected together with an axle, right? Is it just that gears are attached to the axle?

Thats is just a hub connecting the carbon fiber shaft to the transmission (not shown in CAD)
Both wheels are connected together to the transmission and behave as a single axle

Sweet! One more thing.. I am slightly confused on why you had decided to use 5 nanos b/c of the delay causes from communicating between multiple processors and overall complexity. Why didn't you choose to buy a more powerful board (i.e greater SRAM and flash memory) with enough pins for all the peripherals?

And lol another thing... are you using some sort of inertial measurement unit (IMU) (i.e. accelerometer) to determine the position of your vehicle? I can't imagine how one accounts for the error from the skid and different frictions of floors without moving backwards. Since we can't back track this year, what else can one do other then maybe... continuously keeping track of his/her vehicle through an IMU and creating some sort of feedback loop from that data.

And Bazinga, what happened to be the 'brushless+esc+arduino problem' from last year? What had caused all those problems and what fixed them?
