I'm Jeannie. And it's okay. A lot of people on here think I'm a guy for some reason. You'd think the heart in my avvie would give it away. Oh wait, I had to cut down the size to be 75 pixels, and the heart got cut out. Anyway, though, it's allright. I guess most people don't think a girl would do Fossils.
False! Of course girls can/would do Fossils.

Also: lllazar- If there wasn't ID or geo time or anything like that on your test, what exactly was on it?

Haha, my partner for fossils a few years ago was a girl. Anyway, on the internet, you're usually male until proven female. May be unfair, but that seems to be how it works.

Ok so this is wat it was like...

2 questions on symmetry, very easy...

Methods of preservation made up a 1/4 - 1/3 of the test...also quite easy, and if i didnt know the answer of the top of my head...it was in my binder. But i always did know them, so ya...thats how easy it was.

I think there were a few questions on "which of these statements about fossils is most true?"
One of the options on one of these questions was like "fossilization is a common occurence". Thats how easy this test was people.

If i remember correctly, there was one question that asked how long ago the dinosaurs died...we were taught this in elementary school...

So ya, i seriously talked to my coach about this and she said that should not have happened because according to the rules, fossil ID has to be like 50% of the test...i REALLY hope state is better on things like this.

so sexist! I was going to do fossils, but there was a time conflict, so i ended up doing something else, but we're both girls who were going to do fossils!

In my history of sci oly partners, the females tend to study more and are more helpful than the males...:)

Anyone know how much taxonomy on each genus should I list? I'm thinking about listing each Order, Phylum, family, kingdom on each one.

Sounds accurate. My male fossil partner isn't studying at all. I'm trying to trade him.

I have the Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, and Genus for each. I tend to get asked a lot of questions on Classes, which aren't in the Smithsonian. Go as complete as you can, but don't include stuff like sub-orders and super-families.

>.< I have a guy for a partner and a couple days ago I decided to give he a simple ID test. There was a diatom on it and he ended up asking me why I had put bacteria on the test. I became sad :( ...actually I became  . I can't "trade" him though because States is exactly two weeks away and no one else can do Fossils. He can study when you really really really really pressure him though...as in "study this because I will be testing you on it in 20 minutes".

Anyway, back on topic. Does anyone know some other topics outside of the rules that they've encountered on tests or something. I know I've seen famous paleontologists before...

In the rules, section 3b, it lists petrifaction and petrification separately. What is the difference between petrifaction and petrification?
