We have 9th graders because we want to make it to Nationals this year after being so close last year. And technically, it's division B which is 6-9 not 6-8. Plus, our high schoolers are extremely hardworking and they want to be a part of Beckendorff Science Olympiad. It's a personal choice if you want to do divsion b or c.
The reason division B allows 6-9th graders is because some middle schools consist of the 9th grade.

There were 16 events.
smarticle13 wrote:I don't really get why beckendorff has 9th graders on their team. When I go into 9th, I wouldn't want to represent a school that I do not attend.
The 9th graders on our team are all those who were on the team last year when we got 3rd at state and 2nd place beat us by a mere 3 points. We were all upset but also motivated to work harder so we came back. For us, it doesn't matter that we don't attend BDJH anymore but rather the fact that the BDJH team is amazing and very supporting and most importantly, we all wanted a second chance.
8th at Nationals......In our 1st year.........finally, our chance to shine
