Mousetrap Vehicle C
Re: Mousetrap Vehicle C
Try drilling random holes with the largest drill bit you can find. My wheels were from 3/8 in wood and it cut the weight down a lot

Re: Mousetrap Vehicle C
I can’t cut any holes into the frame [really would not give me an advantage by doing so]. I whish I could cut a bunch of holes into the wheels then they would be just as weak as a single DVD. I don’t know any other wheel to use, I liked the scrambler wheels that were cut from plexy glass that are on this web page but those were homemade and my schools don’t have the tools necessary to make such wheels.TECspin wrote:Try drilling random holes with the largest drill bit you can find. Re: Mousetrap Vehicle C
For all the people who were able to go to invitational’s how would a score of 15 hold up [this is a good score for the vehicle I have right now]? Right now vehicle takes 32 seconds and can stop 3cm away from dead center very consistently. What has been the fastest recorded time this year has anyone gotten under 20 seconds even?

15 = first at almost any invitational...packer-backer91 wrote:For all the people who were able to go to invitational’s how would a score of 15 hold up [this is a good score for the vehicle I have right now]? Your vehicle is better than mine

Or, maybe not? I'm testing my new one tonight!
My new vehicle is far superior to my old one (esp. speedwise), so I'll report the time later.

This event is can be very difficult to tell how "fast" is really fast for this event. I would greatly like to know how fast your new is vehicle does after you test it. I have worked on a new design to make it my existing vehicle much faster . This design will not be used until after Reginald, so I don't know how much faster we can go than we already are.

Ours run a bit under 10 seconds. Now if we can get the distance performance to match the speed....packer-backer91 wrote:For all the people who were able to go to invitational’s how would a score of 15 hold up [this is a good score for the vehicle I have right now]? I cut my time in half (around 20 seconds, but the floor was slippery so I went more distance than necessary)

How heavy is your vehicle it has to be extremely light correct [under 250 Grams]? But under 10 seconds that is very impressive, that was very surprising to hear that their was a vehicle that is under 10 seconds total. This was a mistake run but we could get about 9 seconds to go one way with the vehicle unable to reverse. Like I have said the second version of my vehicle is still being made but wow, I may need to rethink some things to achieve a speed that fast.
I have to propose a question to everyone:
the rules say that we can not follow the vehicle down the track, so how is one to make an adjustment to the distance that the vehicle goes out if we cant see how far it was over/under the 7m line. I was going to send a rule clarification asking if we could go out side of track [so that we could have one person on each side of the track]. Does anyone agree with me that this should be in consideration to be changed [if not this year than next it should be a major point of improvement that they can make]

Re: Mousetrap Vehicle C
I have had that exact thing happen to me in competition. I ended up not adjusting enough and my vehicle missed the 7 meter mark on both runs. I have just decided that I will sacrifice a bit of extra distance and time to ensure I make it into the 7 meter zone. I think in this respect the rules are pretty poor. Perhaps in future years you could put one team mate at the 7 meter mark before you start the vehicle. But this might bring in the problem of students arguing with the event supervisor about whether it made it far enough or not (because when you were looking from 7 meters away it is pretty hard to argue that it went far enough, trust me).packer-backer91 wrote: I have to propose a question to everyone:

When it comes to the future, there are three kinds of people: those who let it happen, those who make it happen, and those who wonder what happened.
