My coach told our team that New York was boycotting water testing, so does anyone know what will be there instead? Will the event just be shorter?

I don't know about New York, but North Carolina is also not doing water testing (something about it being too much of a hassle?), and they're not replacing it with anything. Just a shorter, easier competition, lucky us :)

Our area is also not doing water testing (somewhere in NY) we're putting those points into powders, chromatography and maybe the essay.

I studied water testing a little, and it will mainly be testing common cations with their reagents. The difficult part will probably be choosing which reagent to use to test for which cation.
