Re: Pennsylvania 2010
Gah I was counting on you Harriton :'(.
Anyways, I didn't go to invites, they don't like the B team very much, and so they don't take us. The fact they'd have to pay extra doesn't help either
Does anyone have specific event standings? More specifically, how did Astronomy, Egg O Naut, and Write it Do it go?

Re: Pennsylvania 2010
Hmm, Lower Merion got higher than Penncrest A. Is this just a result of how the teams were split, or is Lower Merion just very good this year? I putting my money on a combination of both.

I would bet it has more to do with this:EASTstroudsburg13 wrote:Hmm, Lower Merion got higher than Penncrest A. Is this just a result of how the teams were split, or is Lower Merion just very good this year? I putting my money on a combination of both.
andDeeisenberg wrote:Penncrest does not use only underclassmen. Penncrest sends two teams, though their team only has about 20 people, so both teams are of about 10. They are somewhat mixed, though one team had most of the seniors. The team with most the seniors got 7th, the other team got 17th. This really isn't THAT different from their past results there.sciolykid101 wrote:I guess their underclassmen are getting weaker?eta150 wrote:They did, but didn't do too well, I think they came in seventh

Re: Pennsylvania 2010
Okay so that explains one part. But getting 6th at Athens isn't too shabby for Lower Merion, who didn't do so well last year.

Re: Pennsylvania 2010
Well, to that: LM only had 6 people on the team at Conestoga; even one of their captains didn't show up.
LM did incredibly well at Athens. They're a funny team; they have a bunch of incredbly smart kids, but they all out next to no effort into science Olympiad, mostly because they don't feel they have a shot at doing "well." that said, they're consistently in the top spots at even PA states, which is no small task, having done maybe the equivalent of 2 or 3 real weeks of work per year (granted, many of them have strong B division backgrounds to build on, but still).
Since I have a lot of friends on the LM team, I'm hoping they're encoraged by this and put some more effort in this year. They've got a chance to cause quite a stir.
And, to wit: LM also *didn't bring* two of their building events. To my mind, it's tough to make excuses for why Penncrest lost to them - it's not as though LM was going "all out" while PC was sitting back split.
