But can you optimize the rocket without doing any calculations?

Not easily.

i won state in Indiana a couple years ago without calculating anything on the rocket, it was a design our coach showed us how to make, but we always would use the guess and check method of getting stuff fixed on it, so you don't have to optimize the rocket to win

Not necessarily, but you'd have a lot easier of a time increasing performance if you had a baseline on which to base your design and adjustments.

id say that math is pretty important. optimization is key. i wish i had known more about aerodynamics last year when i did wright stuff, it woulda helped tremendously. research some equations and find out what you need to increase duration.

There's a separate thread for Scrambler. This thread is for Egg-O-Naut.

this is my first time doing this event and i am confused when i read the rules. it says that the pressure vessel may not be altered by cutting. so does that mean that the 1L bottle used to launch the rocket has to be the whole 1L rocket? where do we keep the egg.

thanks

no, the one liter bottle that launches the rocket can't be altered because it holds the water and the air pressure, you can glue, tape, or in other ways attach more bottles to the pressure chamber to hold the egg, make it more balanced, and improve the rocket, look at the egg-o-naut wiki, ask on the chat, or post your question here

Can you use a nose cone? It says there cannot be a leading edge, so can there be a round leading point?

i'm pretty sure you can, i plan on using one, i think they put that in the rules to prevent arrows and other rigid objects being the leading edge of the rocket
