Fins are normally already really light, 1 more fin is not that big of a difference.

True, but I also find attaching fins to be such a hassle. Especially when using glue that takes forever to dry.

I do too, but it is not a weight problem

It really depends on the weight of the rocket, the amount of water that you use, and wind. There are many variables. I actually never really check to see how high my rocket goes at each launch. But I always take videos, so it gives me a good idea of what works and what doesn't.

How many fins are optimal? 3 or 4? I'm a total newbie when it comes to building events, in fact this is my first building event (I also have elevated bridge) in my 5 year scioly career.

doesn't matter, as long as it stabalizes the rocket the design and number of the fins does not matter

Speaking of fins, what kinds of materials are people using to make them, and what kinds of adhesives are being used to attach them?

I use balsa; I just cut the fin designs out of the balsa sheets, and I glue them on with super glue.But I think glue has been addressed on this forum already

I'm using balsa too, but I used hardish plastic on one of my rockets last year

Today we tested our new design, and the rocket stayed in the air for 13.56 seconds without a parachute , it went like 150 to 200ft high and came down on it's side.
