As far as I know, just what latitudes theyre located at (probably not exact, just the relative areas) and what types of plants dominate them.amerikestrel wrote:How much do you usually have to know about biomes other than the ones that are focused on?

Re: Ecology B/C
I think that a judge adhering strictly to the rules should not give any questions on biomes that are not part of the selected biomes for the year (Grassland & Taiga) but I have seen it on tests. The one that jumps to my mind most is the aquatic biomes. Knowing the benthic, pelagic, and all of the other zones. I have seen that on tests before when it shouldn't be on there.amerikestrel wrote:How much do you usually have to know about biomes other than the ones that are focused on?
When it comes to the future, there are three kinds of people: those who let it happen, those who make it happen, and those who wonder what happened.

Sometimes you run into a recycled test, or a test with recycled questions. Unfortunate, but it happens.Paradox21 wrote:I think that a judge adhering strictly to the rules should not give any questions on biomes that are not part of the selected biomes for the year (Grassland & Taiga) but I have seen it on tests. My tryout test had some of the same questions as a practice test that I took a while ago.Flavorflav wrote:Sometimes you run into a recycled test, or a test with recycled questions. Re: Ecology B/C
Haha when I did Food Science as a trial event at Nats a few years back, the questions were copied directly from a practice exam online, so I knew every answer. I think we would have medalled, if we didnt get DQed =(amerikestrel wrote:My tryout test had some of the same questions as a practice test that I took a while ago.Flavorflav wrote:Sometimes you run into a recycled test, or a test with recycled questions. Well, we're not totally sure.amerikestrel wrote:What happened?gneissisnice wrote:I think we would have medalled, if we didnt get DQed =(
It might have been because I insulted the judge a little bit. You see, the lab part of the event was terribly written, and on the instructions for one part, it said "Add water to the cereal". I did, and things still werent working out, so we asked the proctor. He was extremely rude, and treated us like idiots, saying something like "You're obviously supposed to add 50 mL of water, read the instructions". I got annoyed and said "The instructions didnt say that. Your event sucks". He just kinda glared at me and left. We found out later that we got 61st place. Out of 60 teams.

Re: Ecology B/C
I think some biome questions are fair. I think it is fair to ask where the biomes are located and interpreting temperature and precipitation graphs and matching them with the proper biome. Any detailed questions about other biomes, I think are unfair and should not be asked. About the specific biomes, questions relating to human impact on them are reasonable.
