But then again, their logic is flawed. You have way more fun at nationals than most of the year combined.

Just kidding... sorta. :)

What if a state had all regionals build an all-star team composed of the best in each event from the teams that would not make it to states?
2007 Events: Remote Sensing, Astronomy, Fermi Questions, SumoBots
2008 Events: Remote Sensing, Astronomy, Herpetology, SumoBots, Forensics

2009 Events: Remote Sensing 3, Astronomy 2, Fossils 2, Sumobots 1, It's About Time 1, Chem Lab 2

because the best in each event, their teams usually go to state

they could do that, except have an allstar competition a little bit after states, so the best people in the regions are competing against the other regions

Last year after scioly ended i asked eathousemd something about my scrambler that she'd probably know the answer to and she was all like "why do you care so much about winning? it's just for fun!! it doesn't matter at all" yeah i guess I'm the only competitive person on my team
Unfortunately, its the opposite in my high school. Winning is so important that events get assigned quickly and we tend to not have much fun. I miss Jr. High scio...we had fun and we did amazingly (top ten in nats for the past few years).
2009 events:
Fossils: 1st @ reg. 3rd @ states (stupid dinosaurs...) 5th @ nats.
Dynamic: 1st @ reg. 19thish @ states, 18th @ nats
Herpetology (NOT the study of herpes): NA
Enviro Chem: 39th @ states =(
Cell Bio: 9th @ reg. 18th @ nats
Remote: 6th @ states 3rd @ Nats
Ecology: 5th @ Nats

The best idea is to base events around the schedule, but unfortunately, our regional schedule usually isnt posted until about January. And thats bad, cause regionals is in February. The state schedule is out, so we've been trying to base it off that, but since we dont know our team numbers, the only conflicts we know for sure are ED and astronomy, env. chem and tech. problem solving, and herpetology and fossils ( fot the last one).

i think its more about the teams, and sometimes talented individuals lose out because of it
