I believe this was mentioned earlier: put the calls on your ipod (or similar mp3 player), and play them on shuffle.Paradox21 wrote:Has anyone come across a good method for learning bird calls? The national list has 47 different bird calls; is there a better method than rote memorization?

I'm trying to figure out how to do this. I think that might've been me. lol.amerikestrel wrote:I believe this was mentioned earlier: put the calls on your ipod (or similar mp3 player), and play them on shuffle.Paradox21 wrote:Has anyone come across a good method for learning bird calls? Re: Ornithology B/C
My favorite site for calls is the cornell lab site, but I couldn't figure out how to download them off of there so I just recorded them with my computer then put them into itunes. But I only have a few of them done, and I haven't had time to do the rest...sewforlife wrote:I'm trying to figure out how to do this. Well I would suggest making flashcards with flashcardmachine.com. You can put images and sound on them.

I wish I could do this. I don't know how, or I can't record from my computer. dangit.amerikestrel wrote:My favorite site for calls is the cornell lab site, but I couldn't figure out how to download them off of there so I just recorded them with my computer then put them into itunes. If you have a Mac, you can use Garageband to record it. If you don't, I'm not sure how you could do it. You could probably use an external tape recorder.sewforlife wrote: I wish I could do this. I don't know how, or I can't record from my computer. dangit.
I've been looking for something just like that? Thanks!googlyfrog wrote:Well I would suggest making flashcards with flashcardmachine.com. You can put images and sound on them.

Re: Ornithology B/C
You're welcome!
It SAYS you can put audio on the flashcards, and I've tried doing that, but it's not working for me. I'm not sure if it's my computer, or if the website is messed up or something, so I'll probably just learn another way.
Does anyone know what kind of calls we need to know? Mobbing calls, mating calls...whenever I find an audio track online, I'm not sure what kind it is. Do we need to know all the types of calls?

Re: Ornithology B/C
yeah. ive been wondering what kind of calls we need too. ive just been working with the typical calls on allaboutbirds to start with. i record them onto my cell phone and randomly select one each night and set it as my alarm...lol...
also, ive been wondering how everyone else has gone about organizing their bird guide?

Wow, good idea. I use my phone as an alarm too, so maybe I should do that. Not sure if it would wake me up though, even if I recorded someone screaming and set it as my alarm, I'd be sound asleep!
I haven't started on the field guide yet.

Re: Ornithology B/C
If nobody has done it already, I'm going to try to get a rules clarification on the bird call question.
Think I'll get a response?
