Re: Dynamic Planet B/C
When you have a fault, you have two "walls". It can be hard to tell which is which. But I believe that the hanging wall occurs above the fault and the footwall occurs below the fault.

Because of the angle of the fault. Whichever one is on top is the hanging wall. You need to know which is which so you can determine if it's reverse or normal.
Edit: bleh, it didnt come out the I wanted it to. Oh well, I'll see if I can fix it another time, im gonna be late for class if I stay now.
There. That's a bit better.

Re: Dynamic Planet B/C
Will they tell us to identify which is which during the competition?

Re: Dynamic Planet B/C
They might not explicitly ask which is the hanging wall and which is the footwall, but they will probably ask what kind of dip-slip fault it is, and the way to tell is by finding the relative motion of the hanging wall to the footwall.curly657 wrote:Will they tell us to identify which is which during the competition?gyourkoshaven wrote:When you have a fault, you have two "walls". Re: Dynamic Planet B/C
I went to a competition and took the test, but it was on COMPLETELY different stuff than the material I was told to research. Does anybody have any ideas as to how I can make sure that does not happen again?

Re: Dynamic Planet B/C
I might suggest reading the rules, then the wiki. That will give you a pretty comprehensive overview of what the event consists of.
The rules will say how long the event takes - usually it's 50 minutes for test/lab events.
I feel like I'm repeating myself when I say that there is no way to simply label events as "hard" or "easy."

Re: Dynamic Planet B/C
This is very similar to asking how hard this event is.jazzycarr0t wrote:Hey guys,

A cheat sheet is for what you do not know or forget easily. Because this varies from person to person and team to team it is impossible to tell you what you should put on your cheat sheet.
I recommend you put what you and your partner do not know very well and forget easily
