Re: Ecology B/C
They're probably going to ask about species now because teams can bring in a cheat sheet.

Re: Ecology B/C
It says this is not a taxonomical event in the event powerpoint by Karen Lancour. It is on the event CD. Also, you can find it in the training handout online. The sheet is bad for all of us who know ecology well! Ecology did not need a sheet, it was easy already,

Yeah, it really was one of the easier events.Nerd95 wrote:It says this is not a taxonomical event in the event powerpoint by Karen Lancour. It is on the event CD. I mean, the people who normally did ecology (who were very good at it) on our team also both did WIDI, and there was a conflict at Nats.
So I picked up ecology and my partner and I had never competed in ecology before.
We still managed to get 5th at Nats though, with no prior event experience (we were both in AP Bio, and I took APES though, so that probably helped).
2009 events:
Fossils: 1st @ reg. 3rd @ states (stupid dinosaurs...) 5th @ nats.

Enviro Chem: 39th @ states =(
Cell Bio: 9th @ reg. 18th @ nats
Remote: 6th @ states 3rd @ Nats
Ecology: 5th @ Nats

Re: Ecology B/C
If I may ask, why would a sheet of notes be bad? I competed in ecology last year as a replacement for another person who had a scheduling conflict, and I plan to do it again this year.
Also, does anyone have a direct link to the Kilburn website?

Because it allows people who don't work as hard (Or are replacements like yourself) to get an extra edge.amerikestrel wrote:If I may ask, why would a sheet of notes be bad? I don't mean to offend you, but you shouldn't come in on an even playing field (With people that have been doing it for months longer, unless you REALLY study).

Re: Ecology B/C
I agree completely. I have been doing ecology for three years now and it is my top event since Awesome Aquifers left.
I work very hard every year to get top and I think that the sheet makes the event too even of a playing field. I think that because of the sheet, the event will be even harder to win.
Anyways, I am sort of confused on taigas. Any good books or websites? (I might just put taiga info on my sheet!!)

Re: Ecology B/C
Look at the stuff on soinc.org and the ecology wiki once it gets updated. I didn't find it particularly useful, but the wikipedia article on taiga presented good basic information.

Because it's generally easy enough without a sheet.amerikestrel wrote:If I may ask, why would a sheet of notes be bad? I competed in ecology last year as a replacement for another person who had a scheduling conflict, and I plan to do it again this year.

Adding resources means that the scores on the tests are going to be much closer to 100%.
