But really, you set the bar wherever you want. Since you'll only be able to karma x posts per day/hour/whatever...you have to figure out what few posts are worth your karmas that day
I'll be allocating mine to good answers to questions and helpful suggestions...
We'll have more locked-down forums for Event Help in terms of thread creation, so hopefully the countless duplicate threads will be history.

In that case, I'd say keep post count and get rid of the state field, as that always seemed kind of synonymous with location to me.

Exalted Members/medals will still be around, as that is designed to recognize contributions outside of the forum, which karma can't cover.
OK, so I haven't been around for a while and just skimmed this thread, but is the Karma system going to be limited to the event help threads or is it going to be in the general chat/regional forums as well?

I think its event help, regional, invitationals, nats and it would probobly work well in feedback too
basically not general chat but most other stuff
It could technically be applied to any forum, but I believe DS said it's only going to be applied to Event Help. No way it goes for General Chat (if anyone thinks there's something in General Chat that deserves positive karma, they're deluded).
Ok, that's what I thought (and hoped). I was wondering what would be the point of karma in general chat. It just struck me as not the greatest idea. I do, however, like the idea for event help. It will be a great way for people to know who knows what they are talking about and who is still learning. Thanks for answering my question.

I'd stick it in feedback too--if someone had a really good idea for the site that would deserve karma
I think karma should be as follows:
1. Like DS said, it should be limited (x amount of karma given every certain amount of time)
2. Mods, and nobody else, should be able to give negative karma
3. It should be cumulative, not a percentage. So it should not be like ratings on, say, YouTube, where one five star rating gives you five stars. Add a one star rating to that and you end up with three stars. It should like you have one karma, then someone gives you one more and you now have two and so on.
4. Once you add karma to a post, you shouldn't be able to add karma to it again.
I agree that state should be eliminated, and it should only be in event forums and also in feedback. Also, a possible fix, at least partially, to boosting friends' karma would be that you can't add karma to the same person twice in a row. Obviously this is a trade off because it is very possible that someone really deserves karma twice in a row.
