why are all of you making a big deal over an event that alot aren't even in
1. you can't judge how "good" the event is if haven't even done it (like alot of you)
(can't write a review for a movie you haven't seen)
However, we have read the rules, heard reports of the activities involved, and (at least in my case) done practice events. In some sense,
only someone who hasn't done the event can judge objectively how "good" it is. Just because it's fun, doesn't mean it's a "good" event, so if you've done the event and enjoyed it you may want it to be continued, even if on some level you realize that it's not the point of SciO (in fact, when I was doing those practice events, I had a lot of fun. It wasn't something I would want to count toward my score, though).

4. if they are going to cycle it out next year with another event, why are you even bothering about getting rid of it?
Well, partly it's that we want to make sure that it will
definitely be cycled out next year, and partly that we just want to complain about it, completely separate from actually getting rid of it

.

5. It is good to have an easy event every now and then; it is a whole lot better than being bombarded with 5 events at state or regional and have a easy event thrown in to calm you down
If you have too many events, then give them to someone else... then, to relax, go outside and play frisbee in a venue that
won't affect your score.

6. Let's say a group of sci olyers don't like Fossils b/c of an unclear reason (take the hint you all don't agree on the same dislike of this event) so i start a thread that asks for it to be discontinued, but you really likes the event so you don't want it to be gone. What are you gonna do?
7. Seriously, what can we do that will get rid of any event?
Fossils is a serious academic event. I get that you were just using as an example, but it's a completely different issue. The problem is whether or not Pentathlon belongs in Science Olympiad. I don't think anyone would argue that Fossils isn't really science.
As for what we can do, very little, but we can whine about how much we dislike the event here

Also, I've never understood the argument that "we can't do anything about it, so why would we argue about it?" Sometimes a little debate is fun for its own sake.
