I having a problem with my device. Alone it is 60cm, by 30cm, by 60. However, it it sensitve and needs shims to work if the surface is no flat. depending on how uneven the surface is, the shims can potentially add to the height. When measuring the devices height, does it account for the shims? Or does it exclude them?

The rules aren't quite as clear as one might like. Fortunately, someone already asked this question. If you look in the official FAQ on soinc.org, you see:

The dimension of the roller coaster(30.0cm* 60.0cm* 60.0 cm) is counted with or without leveling? Does the leveling material used need to be inside this dimension?


No the material used to level the table or device does not count in the dimensions as long as it is used only for leveling. The material for leveling must be submitted along with the device at the time of impound.

The leveling shim should not add significant height to the device. And its always safe to build the device 1 to .5 cm less so that we don't have to deal with the shim height.

In my experience as a supervisor we just need 2 to 3 mm shim height to make it level. Adding a spirit level to the device also helps with the conversation
