What State and Region are you guys in?
Re: What State and Region are you guys in?
Wayne County, Michigan-
1st place county
16th place state (because of a couple of accidents on the road)
4th place in Reach For the Stars in States!
Did you see (Michigan SO people) people waving signs saying "we're number 7"?

Re: What State and Region are you guys in?
I don't know what "districts" are. We don't have them here in NY as far as I know.
We have regionals, though, and if you want to get to state you have to get past regionals first. There's 11 regions in the state. So each region can only send a few teams (I think it's between 3 and 5 depending on the size of the region) to states. Our region had 34 teams competing last year, all for 4 spots. In the years before, there were between 27 and 29 teams and only 3 spots.
So it's not easy to even make states. Yet, in other states, it seems like states is the starting point.

Re: What State and Region are you guys in?
I think NY is one of the few states with regional tournaments. We have so many teams, but some states have so few that they go straight to nats (actually the only one i think that has that is hawaii, but im not totallly sure).
2009 events:
Fossils: 1st @ reg. 3rd @ states (stupid dinosaurs...) 5th @ nats.
Dynamic: 1st @ reg. 19thish @ states, 18th @ nats
Herpetology (NOT the study of herpes): NA
Enviro Chem: 39th @ states =(
Cell Bio: 9th @ reg. 18th @ nats
Remote: 6th @ states 3rd @ Nats
Ecology: 5th @ Nats

Indiana has Regionals, too, although they aren't nearly as big as New York Regionals.

Re: What State and Region are you guys in?
SE Pennsylvania. It's a pretty good region for B division, but for C division there are probably 3 teams that could probably get top ten at nationals (two just did) and then a fourth that might be able to get top 20 or 15.
PA is up there with the states that have to most team. We have 6 regions, 35 teams from each division compete at states. 38 teams for division C in our region, and I think 37 from B division. The top 8 from C division go to states, and the top 10 from B go to states. 3 of the 4 teams sent from PA to nationals came from the region, the only one that didn't was Sewickley Middle School (did I spell that right?).
Anyway regionals are run pretty well, we have every event and most supervisors are competent. It still isn't run quite as well as states and nationals though.
