Re: Environmental Chem
I haven't seen anything about salts and carbonate ion tests... Who posted the method for calibrating a pH probe? Thanks!!!

Re: Environmental Chem
Yes, they did, and on top of the little instruction paragraph in the test booklet, the sup explained it all at the beginning.kjhsscioly wrote:did they give you instructions for the salts and carbonate ion tests?

Re: Environmental Chem
Phenylethylamine - I saw that you had the salts and carbonate ion tests, but did you have any other oddball ones?

Re: Environmental Chem
Not really. On the soil texture triangle part, there was a container with a soil and water that you had to shake up, let settle, and then measure the layers to figure out the percentages. Then you had to use the triangle to figure out what type of soil it was.

Re: Environmental Chem
i was reading over the wiki and it says "Upon being given three soil samples, identify which is clay, silt and salt." I assumed it was a typo it was meant sand not salt. am i correct?

Re: Environmental Chem
you definitely need to do more practice tests(like 15)if you can find somedosmotak wrote:I've only taken one Eviro. Chem test, and that was at regionals, so I don't know what to base my note sheet on, except just basic soil information.

Re: Environmental Chem
I would assume so. Salt makes no sense in that context, and given that the other two are clay and silt, sand would be the logical third.BBMOCT wrote:i was reading over the wiki and it says "Upon being given three soil samples, identify which is clay, silt and salt." Re: Environmental Chem
I didn't like the way they had those tests, because in the rules it only talks about using probes to test! I didn't practice that at all, and I managed to do the tests, but then I didn't know what results to look for, so I basically guessed.. I did all the testing while my partner did all multiple choice.Phenylethylamine wrote:Yes, they did, and on top of the little instruction paragraph in the test booklet, the sup explained it all at the beginning.kjhsscioly wrote:did they give you instructions for the salts and carbonate ion tests?

Re: Environmental Chem
Well, the topics in the rules are basically suggestions, so they are allowed to have things that aren't specified as long as they're on topic (not that there's really anything to bind them to the rules anyway...). We had never done anything like that conductivity test, so we just inferred that since it said you were testing for salts, if there were salts it would be conductive.
