Why are these events?

It's been almost a year since this thread was bumped! Our school is finally starting to pick up some scio momentum after a pandemic hiatus and we've been looking at next year's events.

I find the event rotations to be pretty interesting - for example, looking at the SOSI draft schedule, it looks like Ping Pong Parachute is out, and replaced with Fast Facts. Completely different events, and I think before PPP, it was Mystery Architecture? All of these are grouped as "inquiry" events, which all tend to have one thing in common - a very low barrier to entry. Almost any student can participate in these events, whether or not they've been mastering the required skills. Obviously, you can't wake up on Saturday morning, and get thrown into Road Scholar, or Disease Detectives, with just a quick overview of the rules - but inquiry events, you actually can. I'm not saying this is good practice for successful teams, but the accessibility is what makes them fun (and worth keeping!).
