Re: Crime Busters B
I've never ES'd Crime Busters, so can someone tell me how they grade testing "2" powders. If the team gets one of the two solids correct, is that counted as -1 (partial credit) or full credit? Or are they typically scored as an "all or nothing"?

Re: Crime Busters B
It's usually each powders is worth 1 point (if out of 2 points), but it's obviously up to the event supervisor. I think it's normal to do one point per powder though. Hope this helps! :)

Density
We have not participated in Crime Busters before. There is a reference to using density. Does this mean that the students will be expected to use lab equipment to figure out the mass and volume and then calculate the density. If so, what equipment are they given to measure mass and volume?

Re: Density
Are you referring to section 2.f.iii in the rules manual? It talks about "differential density solutions or other method of determining density of polymers if plastics given". Typically when density is used in Crime Busters, it's used as a means of distinguishing two unknown plastics. Students are rarely (in my experience) expected to calculate density on their own, they use solutions of a known density to determine the density of an unknown plastic (if that makes sense).jhutchins095 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 09, 2022 10:36 am We have not participated in Crime Busters before. For example, one of the unknown plastics in the event might float in water. Since it is known that both LDPE and HDPE have a lower density than water, it is likely that the unknown plastic is one of these two.

Re: Crime Busters B
It says in the manual that each participant may have two cheat sheets. Must they be the same exact cheat sheet or can they be different?
