“Bottle label must be presented at check in”
Our rockets were built with the labels attached to the bottle, but the size of “20 fl oz” can clearly be seen on the rocket. I saw in the news rules for this year it must be presented at check in- do we need to take the label off to “present it at check in” or can it be still attached to the rocket?

If the labels are still on the bottle, and it's clearly visible that the volume is 20 oz and the bottle was meant for a carbonated beverage, it should be fine.ccasediaz wrote: ↑November 2nd, 2021, 2:55 am Our rockets were built with the labels attached to the bottle, but the size of “20 fl oz” can clearly be seen on the rocket. Let me emphasize that this last thing is a safety issue. Bottles for carbonated drinks are built to hold 200 pounds or so of pressure. Bottles for still water are not, and many still water bottles are much thinner and weaker. Nobody wants a rocket to explode on the launcher.CookiePie1 wrote: ↑November 2nd, 2021, 10:14 amIf the labels are still on the bottle, and it's clearly visible that the volume is 20 oz and the bottle was meant for a carbonated beverage, it should be fine.ccasediaz wrote: ↑November 2nd, 2021, 2:55 am Our rockets were built with the labels attached to the bottle, but the size of “20 fl oz” can clearly be seen on the rocket. No. That wouldn't be safe, even if the bottle feels sturdy to you: carbonated beverage containers are built to withstand pressure, soap bottles are not. Construction parameter A in the rules specifies this.

Re: “Bottle label must be presented at check in”
Do you wash your hands in a carbonated beverage?
Please read rule 3a again. It tells you what bottles you may use. For the avoidance of any doubt, no - you may not use a soap bottle, regardless of how sturdy you think it is.
A rocket constructed from a soap bottle would be a safety violation, and shouldn't be launched (rule 5a).

Re: “Bottle label must be presented at check in”
I'd like to suggest avoiding trying to make others seem foolish for asking honest questions. Sometimes people accidentally miss a line when reading the rules (I've certainly made posts like that before). Other times, people don't read the rules because their coach tells them that they can rely on the coach as their sole source of information, and so they don't need the rules. In this case, it may not be a student's fault for not already having the answers, or else they wouldn't have asked. Ultimately, we want users to feel encouraged to ask genuine questions, and mistakes should be corrected without shaming the user who asked. This helps to sustain the forums as a place where people are comfortable seeking help when they need it.
