Hey everyone! Hope you're excited as I am for this season (unusual as it may be).

Tournaments:

• Invitationals - Fairfax will be running their invitational on Jan 9, and Lake Braddock's will be on Dec 12 - thanks to sciolyperson1 for letting me know!

• Regionals - Either the week of Feb 7 or the week of Feb 14 - one week long MiniSO (Scilympiad) tournament

• States - Late March/early April - decision regarding format to be announced in January

Other notes:

• The team limits are unchanged from last year - three teams with fifteen members each, maximum.

• VASO is allowing high school coaches to give student leadership access to their online portal.

• Introducing the VASO Student Outreach Network! Founded by a group of my friends in association with the state chapter, the network is intended to promote connections between teams and mentorship opportunities. Keep an eye out for more information!

• Boomilever B will be replaced with Digital Structures B.

• Circuit Lab B will be test only.

• Codebusters B will not have a timed question.

• Crime Busters B will be dry lab only.

• Elastic Launched Glider B will not be run.

• Experimental Design B will not be run.

• Food Science B will be test only.

• Game On B will be replaced with Codebusters B.

• Helicopters B will be an optional event that does not contribute to overall team score. Each participant will make their own helicopter.

• Machines B will be test only.

• Mission Possible B will not be run.

This sounds interesting... I wonder what the difference will be between this event and test-only detector.

As I understand it, Detector Design is intended to be almost identical to Detector Building, except without the physical probe - so in addition to the test, there'll also be coding and data modeling, and I believe you'll have to still make a log.

Another important clarification coming from VASO - each individual partner may bring a set of resources (binder/cheat sheet), rather than one per team.

We're four weeks out from the first regional on 1/30! (oh no) Any thoughts on how either of the regionals or Virginia states (whenever that happens) might play out?
