So based on the name I thought it would be building a solid object from nothing, like what we might do in IED class. But... I guess it's just WIDI with virtual materials? Interesting.
Do the informed/intuitive sense that there will be a prevalent CAD program that most tournaments will use? Might be useful for practice...
2018: Hovercraft, Thermo, Coaster, Solar System
2019: Thermo, Circuit Lab, Sounds, Wright Stuff
2020: Circuit Lab, Wright Stuff, Machines
2021: Circuit Lab, Machines, WIDI, anything but Wright Stuff

Can I request that we delete 2020 from our memories and do it over again?

Since there isn't any construction involved, I am assuming that most tournaments will use easy-to-use and free stuff like TinkerCAD or FreeCAD

It looks like one of our first tournaments is going to be using FreeCAD. Our students have school issued chromebooks and it is not able to be loaded on them. We tried using Rollapp but there was no way (that we could find) to save a file once you modified it so it could be sent to the event supervisor. I'm just wondering if anyone else has found a solution to this.

Have you tried following the instructions here?

We did try something similar but the school has the linux access (sorry, I'm sure that's not the proper term but I need more coffee) turned off school wide and they won't turn it back on because it would allow the students to go anywhere on the web. Thanks for the suggestion, though.

Is there any general consensus on what platform to use? I know BEARSO used FreeCAD but as someone said, it doesn't work on school issued Chromebooks (Students cannot download or enable anything on school issued Chromebooks.) My students have school issued Chromebooks and other schools at my tournament do, too. Boyceville is going to use Onshape. We could use Onshape, I just don't want my kids to have to learn a new platform for every tournament.

It may be worth asking the school IT department to add specific programs like FreeCad to the allowed list.

Yes, I will for sure do that. I was just hoping not to have to bother them. Between the virtual learner's, the in person students and trying to do conferences and everything else virtually they have had their hands full. I was hoping there was some way to do it that I wasn't aware of yet and I wouldn't have to add to their load. Thank you!

I highly recommend onshape. It is easy to use, has great tutorials, and sharing files is simple. We have been practicing with it for a month now and have found no issues. The free educational version is really quite amazing.
