We are excited to announce the Harvard-Brown Science Olympiad Invitational Tournament will be hosted virtually for Division C on Saturday, January 30, 2021 and for Division B on Sunday, January 31, 2021. HUSO and BSO are proud to be partnering together to host this year’s tournament, with the goal of providing even more opportunities for accessible STEM competition in the New England area and beyond.
Registration applications will open for all teams on Monday, September 28 and close on Friday, October 9; teams should expect to hear back within a couple weeks of the end of registration. This tournament will be following the MiniSO model following regional/state-level rules as allowed by the official Science Olympiad rules manual. All tests will be administered in synchronous form, and remote collaboration between partners is allowed. We will be hosting 120 teams for our Division C tournament and 100 teams for our Division B tournament; if interest exceeds the team number threshold for a tournament, acceptance will be determined with a lottery, with priority given to returning teams and new teams from under-resourced schools. For more details about the registration and team selection process, see our website at sciolyharvard.org/tournaments.
In a virtual era, we hope that our tournament will become more accessible to a diverse pool of competitors. To further our mission of promoting equity in STEM, we encourage all teams to apply, regardless of experience or financial need. Scholarships will be offered if the registration fee ($20) is a burden to teams this year, and teams requesting scholarship will NOT be put at a disadvantage throughout the lottery system.
More information about our tournament can be found at sciolyharvard.org or brownscioly.com. Please email harvardbrownso2021@gmail.com with any questions. We cannot wait to see you with us this upcoming season!
