Re: Your Daily Random Comment
I got my first medal about a month after I joined because I wrote a whole bunch of sections for the Designer Genes page. I didn't even realize I had a medal until I went to edit my profile on the forums some time later, and noticed that I was in the "Exalted Members" category. I honestly just thought it was mistake (which apparently is a common experience with newly-exalted members).
Though at that point I didn't really use the forums much, either. Now I actually come out of my cave and post sometimes, as opposed to just editing pages.

Re: Your Daily Random Comment
Two underrated points here. First, longevity is, and has always been, a factor in choosing promotions. I was a normal user for 2.5 years before promotion to Wikimod. We want to be able to trust that someone we promote will stick around for a bit.pepperonipi wrote: ↑April 15th, 2020, 10:07 am Be patient - This is important. No one on here became a mod super, super quickly.
If you want to be a mod, then informally let a mod know.
Second, there is no "formal" application process, but the staff is constantly monitoring the boards and wiki (and IRC, though not as much as we used to) for users who might be interested and good candidates, and holding internal discussions about possible candidates; think of your entire "body of work" on the site as your application. But if it's specifically something you're interested in, it doesn't hurt to let someone know. It won't guarantee anything, but it will at least put you on the radar.
PS: When looking at "body of work", we do consider the fact that many of us started in middle school and may have done some maturing. I remember one of my first posts being in the Northern California thread asking them if there were any good teams in Northern California. So don't worry about your deep posting histories too much.

Event page contributions tend to get weighed pretty heavily when awarding medals, as those pages are prominently featured on the main page, very heavily trafficked, and sometimes referenced from SOINC. I would say most of the exalted members that didn't frequent the forums very much got their medals from contributing to event pages.jaspattack wrote: ↑April 15th, 2020, 10:31 am I got my first medal about a month after I joined because I wrote a whole bunch of sections for the Designer Genes page.
