what happens if someone wants to compete in an event they are running?
If you want to compete in an event you’re running don’t run the event. Also running an event gives way more experience in an event if you do it right than competing in one - you know you’re there when you can write a good test.

Also I’d imagine we have separate categories for team and individual

Goodness, this sounds fantastic! I would love to help out, but I put in 50-100 hours per test so I'm probably not going to write. Is there anything I can contribute? I'm not altogether clear about what legalese managers do, but I'm decent with my knowledge of language I guess? I can also try to mobilize my university's SciOly alum group to see who's down to contribute.

Also, pants and waterlubber have started a Discord with the same idea. Should we ask them to hop back on here?

Legalese more or less means working out copyright issues and other things that SOInc might come after us for.
Also, you can definitely reach out to other people and invite pants and waterlubber back on here!

Further, if you don't want to spend that much time on tests, there are events like Machines and WaQua (AKA Lever Lover and Marine Biology) that have shorter tests in comparison to other events cause a decent part of the event is the build portion. You'll also might have someone helping you write the test as well, so that should also cut off some time.

Sorry, if you're still seeing the former post (it should be deleted soon)
We now have a Discord server for test writers, staff, and legalese managers/ anyone who wants to help. If you want to help, please PM me and I can send you the join link.

I think we should host this later in the year, to allow time for better tests and planning.

Right now, we should focus on the split that's been created. I've already got a Discord server with around a hundred people in it, as well as a spreadsheet of people volunteering to write tests (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... sp=sharing).

We should merge these two groups. I think the ideal method would be to decide on a platform (Discord works) and found a new server. Existing leadership of the two servers should meet (as well as seek input from members) as to the best course of action for leadership: right now, we are very disorganized. I would suggest a board of directors composed of members from both servers, implemented in a new discord server designed ahead of time for the purpose. As of now, it appears that various groups are trying to scoop up members as quickly as possible with little long-term planning, so taking the time to design the bureaucracy of whatever new thing we do is important.

If you want to talk to me about this I'll respond much more quickly to Discord DMs (waterlubber#7959) than forum messages.

I'm willing to help wherever I can, but I'm not willing or able to make a large time commitment. I'm willing to do some proofreading and legal rabbit trails, but not to be responsible for it. Also, I think I've asked this before, but what's a Discord, in the communications sense?
