Thank you for everyone's advice, draping the parachute on the tube and having ping pong ball on the side turned out to work the best for us when we tested today, so thanks everyone

Just wondering, does it lean to one side during launch?

I feel like it wouldn't really matter if the cg is right and it falls straight down. I wouldn't expect this design to arc that much

The main reason that I think it would arc is because of the inconsistent air resistance on the parachute when it goes up. If it arced even a little bit, it wouldn't fall straight down and would likely catch onto the parachute.

On the other hand, I feel like the cup strat (ball in cup on top of rocket) might even be worse because the lip of the cup would catch onto the parachute and drag it down, even though it's more symmetrical and probably straighter than the other design (ball hanging from side).

i mean, if he's using a tube guard it's pretty smooth and if the tube is long enough there's really not much stuff for it to get stuck on

It catches on about like 40% of the time for me, not sure why. I think it might be because of the tape.

Both, but the parachute is usually worse.
