Re: Ping Pong Parachute B/C
Thank you for everyone's advice, draping the parachute on the tube and having ping pong ball on the side turned out to work the best for us when we tested today, so thanks everyone

Just wondering, does it lean to one side during launch?donutsandcupcakes wrote: ↑February 19th, 2020, 7:16 pm Thank you for everyone's advice, draping the parachute on the tube and having ping pong ball on the side turned out to work the best for us when we tested today, so thanks everyone

I feel like it wouldn't really matter if the cg is right and it falls straight down. I wouldn't expect this design to arc that muchbuilderguy135 wrote: ↑February 19th, 2020, 9:47 pmJust wondering, does it lean to one side during launch?donutsandcupcakes wrote: ↑February 19th, 2020, 7:16 pm Thank you for everyone's advice, draping the parachute on the tube and having ping pong ball on the side turned out to work the best for us when we tested today, so thanks everyone

Re: Ping Pong Parachute B/C
The main reason that I think it would arc is because of the inconsistent air resistance on the parachute when it goes up. If it arced even a little bit, it wouldn't fall straight down and would likely catch onto the parachute.CookiePie1 wrote: ↑February 19th, 2020, 9:57 pmI feel like it wouldn't really matter if the cg is right and it falls straight down. On the other hand, I feel like the cup strat (ball in cup on top of rocket) might even be worse because the lip of the cup would catch onto the parachute and drag it down, even though it's more symmetrical and probably straighter than the other design (ball hanging from side).

Re: Ping Pong Parachute B/C
i mean, if he's using a tube guard it's pretty smooth and if the tube is long enough there's really not much stuff for it to get stuck onbuilderguy135 wrote: ↑February 19th, 2020, 10:00 pmThe main reason that I think it would arc is because of the inconsistent air resistance on the parachute when it goes up. Re: Ping Pong Parachute B/C
It catches on about like 40% of the time for me, not sure why. I think it might be because of the tape.CookiePie1 wrote: ↑February 19th, 2020, 10:02 pmi mean, if he's using a tube guard it's pretty smooth and if the tube is long enough there's really not much stuff for it to get stuck onbuilderguy135 wrote: ↑February 19th, 2020, 10:00 pmThe main reason that I think it would arc is because of the inconsistent air resistance on the parachute when it goes up. Both, but the parachute is usually worse.CookiePie1 wrote: ↑February 19th, 2020, 10:09 pmyou mean the tape on the parachute or on the rocket?builderguy135 wrote: ↑February 19th, 2020, 10:04 pmIt catches on about like 40% of the time for me, not sure why.
