Re: New York 2020
predictions time!
2nd nationals bid gonna be very interesting.
1. Columbia - too op
2. Ward Melville - solid as usual
3. Syosset - Absolutely crazy performance at mit, not bad at brown too
4. Fayetteville Manilus - Very strong past performances
5 - 10, Mount, Stuyvesant, Kallenberg, GNS, StatTech, Towsend harris
To my surprise, Kellenberg has been very consistent at all of the competitions they've attended this year.
Great Neck South isn't as strong as last year, but should definitely take top 10.
Mount had a very strong performance at columbia

Re: New York 2020
I think you're really underestimating your own team there. You guys are definitely top 5 and I would not be surprised if you qualify for nats.Name wrote:syosset- only here because of a relatively good MIT performance, otherwise the invite season has been very mediocre. If the builds and widi can stop bombing then syo has a chance but before then lol no.

Re: New York 2020
I don’t particularly think so, I feel like they just figured 56 was a weird number and bumped it up to 60. But like, I’m pretty sure Regis and Niskayuna got state bids at their regionals awards ceremonies and then it turns out they accidentally counted trial events so they didn’t really get them, but like, they’re getting to come to states anyway. Which to me is nice! The more the merrier!
It’s kinda scary tho, 62 is such a big number! One bomb could spell doom for anyone who has a chance at a nationals qualification O:

Re: New York 2020
SOUP is over and I'm pretty sure there aren't any more comps, so let's make final NY predictions
1. Columbia- sorry ward, but even after a extremely strong SOUP performance, I still am going to give a slight edge to Columbia (also MIT too). They set a record NY score last year, and while I don't think they'll reach those heights again, they should turn in an impressive states performance.
2. Ward Melville- ignoring MIT, they look like the strongest NY team this year, capping off an impressive invite season at SOUP, and there's a very good chance that they could win states.
Past here, it becomes kinda hard to judge, so don't blame me, I can see this going alot of different ways
3. Syosset- mostly ehh season but had very impressive showings at the two biggest invites, MIT and SOUP. They lost to Columbia both times, but by a combined gap of 6 pts. Gravity vehicle and WIDI showed signs of life at SOUP, which leads me to believe syosset has a small, but plausable chance of upsetting ward/Columbia. However, that would basically require PPP getting figured out, and all the builds going very well. But with this field, a couple of bombs and syosset could really tank too.
4. The Mount Academy- honestly a upset of ward/columbia is not out of the question for them either- their Columbia invite and regionals performance is scary good. Only reason I can't put them third is due to the lack of results at larger comps
5. FM- If Mount was a wild card, FM definitely is one. I would say third or seventh would both be reasonable predictions for FM. They could have a chance at nats or they could bomb. Was FM full strength at SOUP? If so, that was a terrible performance, but even if so, I don't doubt that they will grind for states and turn in a much better performance there. I'll just average 3 and 7 and put them at 5
6. Stuyvesant- Very strong team, and a consistently good performances, but unlike syosset, they haven't had a performance that was truly impressive (like syosset at MIT and a lesser degree SOUP). However at both LISO and MIT, they were directly after ward, so lets see if they can achieve that (or possible more) at states
7. Kellenberg- honestly kinda pains me to put them here, because this is another very strong team with solid performances all year (especially at Centerville). I think this truly attests to the strength of the top 7 this year (if this was last year, I'd prob put kellenberg around 4th or 5th). SOUP must have been a bit disappointing, but I know they were missing people, and they should turn in a much better states performance
Honestly I can see 3-7 going almost any way, and I wouldn't be surprised. All of them have a small chance at making nationals. One very strong team though is going to be left empty handed of a states trophy
8. GNS- they've had a strong season so far- but while I feel that 3-7 teams have all improved since last year, GNS just hasn't as much. They used to be in that second tier of teams, but now I don't think GNS has a strong chance of beating any of them.
9. Staten Island Technical- I know they've unstacked for most of the year, and their superscores have been scary good. I think they stacked for SOUP, and turned in a solid performance there, and should turn in another solid performance at states.
10. Townsend Harris- Wow, NYC east is kinda stacked. I think Townsend has the best chance to make top 10 with their impressive (but also 3rd place) regionals performance, but this could reasonably go to many other teams. I wish Townsend had more compitition results to go off of.
States should be very competitive this year, especially at the top. Good luck to all teams competing!
1. Columbia- sorry ward, but even after a extremely strong SOUP performance, I still am going to give a slight edge to Columbia (also MIT too). They set a record NY score last year, and while I don't think they'll reach those heights again, they should turn in an impressive states performance.

Re: New York 2020
I did not see any of the Adirondack Regional Results posted. We had our tournament back on January 25th. I have the C-Division Results here: https://plattsburghcityschools-my.share ... g?e=N5puoe
1st place was Plattsburgh Orange with 43 points
2nd place was Lake Placid with 84 points
We only had 13 teams participating so the top two made it to States.

Re: New York 2020
So inspired by EastStroudsburg’s PA prediction contest and after some discussion with Name, legitimately, lumosityfan, and a few others, I decided that it would be fun to run something similar for New York Division C states this year.
I was originally planning to run this in tandem with a pre-states predictions poll, but I ultimately decided against it. I figured since I’m still a competitor for a few more weeks, I should spend that time preparing rather than tallying prediction scores (although I’ll still write some predictions and post them lol). I can do the score tallying and ranking for everyone after states when my career as a competitor is over lol.
EDIT 2: Never mind, I am going to do this after all since it turned out to be a lot less time consuming than I had expected. Each 1st place vote will get a team 10 points, 2nd place will get a team 9 points, all the way down to 1 point for 10th. I’ll post the total team scores each Friday leading up to states. So now it’s a predictions contest and poll!
The New York 2020 Division C Prediction Contest!
Entering: Anyone can enter!! Required for entry is a username, predictions for the top 10 teams at NY C states this year, and a tiebreaker question answer. I encourage scioly.org users to put their usernames on their predictions, but if you don’t have a scioly.org account, you are still welcome to submit an entry, just include a uniquely identifying username so that you can be given proper credit for your predictions.
Scoring: Once states is over, I’ll go through the predictions and award points based on their accuracy. So for each top 10 prediction you get dead-on, you’ll get 5 points, for one spot off 4 points, two spots off 3 points, three spots off two points, four spots off one point, and five places and up off, zero points. If a predicted team doesn’t make it into the top 10, no points will be given for that team, and if a team you did not predict makes it into the top 10, no points will be awarded for that team either.
Tiebreaking: There will also tiebreaker and bonus question! The tiebreaker will be estimating and predicting the score of the first-place team. If two or more users tie, whoever predicts a number to the winning team's score will win the tie. If anyone perfectly predicts the winning team's score, they will earn an extra 5 points! (like the Sounds of Music bonus pitch haha)
Addition: If a second tiebreaker is needed, it will be the number of teams perfectly predicted, and if a third is still somehow needed, number of teams in a row correctly predicted will break it. I hope that’s sufficient haha
Rules: Please do not include a team more than once! If a team is accidentally included twice, I’ll count the lower placing entry as a blank space, meaning you can’t earn any points for it. Including a team more than twice will disqualify your entire prediction submission. If you submit more than one entry, I’ll count the latest one submitted as your proper entry, and disregard the others. Obvious troll entries will be ignored, so please try to take this seriously lol
The link to the Google Form is here: https://forms.gle/hX89eipM3WM4JjZ88
The participating teams are listed as options in a dropdown menu and are ordered by team number, as taken directly from https://newyorkscioly.org/?page_id=58.
States looks extremely close and competitive this year, so I hope this contest adds an extra layer of complexity and fun to the pre-states hype! I hope you all are interested in participating in the contest. If you have any questions, feel free to post here or message me, I hope I covered all the bases.
Thanks for participating! The form will close on March 13, at 12:00 AM, which is the first day of the state competition. I won't be publicly releasing submissions, only each person's final scores. I can't wait to determine the champion! Have fun predicting!

You should make it at max 5 cents points off (state rules) for 5 bonus points, lolGiantpants wrote: ↑Tue Feb 25, 2020 8:55 pm Tiebreaking: There will also tiebreaker and bonus question!
