Alterations to Ping Pong

Post by leonaja »

My partner and I were marking a pack of ping pong balls, and then we released that marking the ping pong ball could be considered altering it. The rules states;
"Teams must provide up to two rockets, two unaltered standard ping pong balls, and two parachutes."
The rules are pretty unclear, so I'm asking is drawing on the ping pong ball with sharpie illegal? It isn't changing the ping pong ball to advantage. I was also thinking that some judges may be cool with that and stricter judges may prohibit it.

So, what do you guys think?

I think by asking the question, you understand that marking a ping-pong ball with a sharpie is altering it. We also agree that sharpie markings aren't going to affect your performance at all.

My advice is not to do it. I think you're right that "some judges may be cool with that and stricter judges may prohibit it" - don't take the chance.

Thanks for your input. I think and my partner I will play it safe and not draw on it. Thanks!
