Re: Water Quality B/C
If someone else would like to answer/post a question, they can, but: 1. tritons eat crown-of-thorns
2. predator populations go down(overfishing, nutrient pollution, etc.)
3. coral polyps

3. coral polyps

Re: Water Quality B/C
1. and 3. are correct!
2. yes, but i was thinking outbreaks are in places like the great barrier reef due to increased nutrients from runoff and warming oceans that lead to plankton blooms, speeding COTS growth
your turn

Re: Water Quality B/C
Ah, thanks for correcting me.
1. Why are flamingo tongue snails not the best souvenirs from a scuba diving trip?
2. What ions are responsible for buffering capacity?
3. How is ocean acidification related to the decline of coral reefs around the world?

1) Not 100% sure but I guess its because they are less and less common because of this and also they are important to the ecosystem? 2) Bicarbonate and carbonate (HCO3- and CO3-) 3) Corals produce a calcium carbonate skeleton, so the increase of CO2 reduces their ability to produce their skeletons, causing them to be vulnerable

Huh... clicking on the menu button gives [ spoiler ] [ /spoiler ]. Different syntax?
But anyway, 1 is correct, and I was also looking for the pattern doesn't stay on the shell once the organism dies. 2 is also correct. 3 is mostly correct, but I was also looking for increased acidity shifts the equilibrium toward bicarbonate and carbonic acid, reducing carbonate concentration.
Anyway, your turn!

Re: Water Quality B/C
1) Moray eels lack scales, so what do they have instead that protects them?
2) Moray eels are known to accumulate a certain type of toxin. What is this toxin, where is it located in the eel, and what does the toxin do to prey?
3) Give the equation of Darcy's law and describe the basics of it
4) Name 2 or more sources of salt in the ocean

Re: Water Quality B/C
1. thicker skin, mucus layer
2. ciguatoxin, liver, does nothing to prey? cardiovascular/neurological/gastrointestinal issues for those that eat it
3. Q(flux)= -(permeability*area(pressure drop))/(viscosity*length), fluid flow through a porous medium increases with higher permeability, cross section, and pressure drop and decreases with higher fluid viscosity and longer distance.
4. hydrothermal vents, outgassing

Re: Water Quality B/C
For #1 I was looking for a more for an explanation of what the mucus does, like how it allows for sand granules to adhere to some species or another reason for why it is helpful (can't remember the other ones). Probably should've stated that. Everything else seems correct. Your turn!
