For most, if the test maker has any sympathy for you, there will be a pattern. For example, * . ' and @ may be A while ! % and ? may be B. However, if the symbols seem random, I find that it's easiest to find a block of 5 with just two of the symbols. For the most part, that will normally be your A, unless its BAABA or BAAAB, in which case you can determine which is A and B. From there, you can decode the rest with some difficulty. However, sometimes it's just finding the most common group and assigning it as E or T and going from there.

The key is included in the ciphertext (k2) rather than the plaintext (k1). try looking off of the toebes tutorial for k1 but instead of finding the key in the plaintext switch it around

I’m sorry I’m still a little confused. I solved a K2 patristocrat using frequency analysis and when I had finished I did not see any word within either the plaintext or the ciphertext.

Yeah k2 is kinda confusing. You have to arrange the plaintext in the table from A-Z and then write in the matching ciphertext (the table is usually set up with the ciphertext - not plaintext - arranged from A-Z, so unless the test writers are nice and give you a new table you’ll have to make this one yourself). It’s kind of the opposite process you would go through solving k1, and you also have to keep in mind that the key word may have repeating letters within itself (which get skipped) and that some of the key words letters might map to a plaintext letter that doesn’t get used in the quote. Sorry idk how to explain it that well I’d just say find another k2 and solve it regularly, making the reversed table at the end to find out the pattern.
