Re: Designer Genes C
Thanks for the advice.
Sorry I ask so many questions, but what is the most effective way to work with your partner (checking partner is studying, knows material, etc.)?

Re: Designer Genes C
My partner and I studied individually but we would decide what our strengths were so that the other person did not have to learn that information. Taking practice tests frequently is the most effective way (imo) because you can learn test taking strategies and decide what you need to work on. Also, having a well organized reference sheet is a great way to be efficient.eagerlearner102 wrote: ↑September 27th, 2019, 9:04 pm Thanks for the advice.

Re: Designer Genes C
Do you guys recommend making the cheat sheet as you go or doing it after you did a lot of practice tests, studied a lot more?
You are right about practice tests. Thank you for your advice.

Re: Designer Genes C
I recommend obtaining a base knowledge of the event before you make your cheat sheet. Going through the Designer Genes Wikipedia is a very good place to start. Then add to your cheat sheet what you believe is important and replace information if needed as you go.eagerlearner102 wrote: ↑September 28th, 2019, 4:28 pm Do you guys recommend making the cheat sheet as you go or doing it after you did a lot of practice tests, studied a lot more?

I agree! It's good to build off of learned knowledge while taking practice tests. You could even remove stuff you already knew beforehand and add on new info to notes after taking a test.

Re: Designer Genes C
Just wondering,
what is a very good raw score on the test for Designer Genes in regionals?

Depends on the difficulty of the test.eagerlearner102 wrote: ↑October 17th, 2019, 3:47 pm Just wondering,

Re: Designer Genes C
Do invitationals only test regional + state tournament topics or have their been cases where they asked for national topics?

Re: Designer Genes C
Although designer genes was never one of my events, for most events, invitationals only ask regionals topics. I know the rules manual doesn't specify it for designer genes this year, but for other events, the only topics approved for invitationals are the same as the topics approved for regionals. (This has been true historically as far as I can tell.)eagerlearner102 wrote: ↑October 19th, 2019, 12:44 pm Do invitationals only test regional + state tournament topics or have their been cases where they asked for national topics?
High-level tournaments meant to mimic nationals occasionally ignore this distinction (case in point, the MIT Invitational). Their tests may span regional, state, or even national topics even if the rules say otherwise. Or they may just test regionals topics in a very difficult way.

Re: Designer Genes C
Do any of you guys have suggestions on how to study Designer Genes? I read the handouts and powerpoints but I quickly forget what the word means. I am not retaining the information.
