Would tower chimney still be viable? With the new bonus, how heavy will boomis be now? Aiming for a safe device mass, it might be upwards of 8, even 9 grams early in the season (maybe more 2k+ scores?)

Wdym yikes? This effectively neutralizes all super wide boomis (which weren't very effective ngl) and paves the way for a chimney boomi meta to be rampant this year. (This years rules make boomi way easier ngl) Any "good" chimney boomi would be well within 8cm gap the vertical contact lines are giving you. As for the boomi weights its gonna be an interesting distribution of weights... I was able to get boomis that weighed 5.8-6.4g to hold 12-14.9kg last season so maybe the most competitive boomis end up in the 7-8g region and would hold 15kg sooo scores would definetly be over 2k (Div C). I'd expect national boomis to reach near or more than 3k as people figure out how to boomi (Again for Div C). Right now all teams that got a strong design made that topped 2k last year will be well ahead of most teams as these teams are using 2 types of designs mainly (Which shouldn't violate the rules).

8cm width --> a tad bit heavier boomis (I'd guess 0.3 grams, up to .5 or even .6 grams more), in addition to that, you would have to build boomis that hold 15 kg 80%, if not 100% of the time, which would result in extra weight. Based on what you said, your boomis never held maximum weight... so I'd guess a significant increase in weight would be required for boomis to hold max weight consistently. I wouldn't be surprised to see many 8 gram boomis midseason, and 9 gram boomis early season. Boomis can get up to 3k, but I doubt it would; 2.7k would be approx the max, even at nats.

I would agree with 8-10 grams at some of the top comps and some of the estimations of efficiency. The tapering design is definitely going to add a new layer of complexity if a team decides to go that route. I really like the change/challenge of the 8cm "gap" this year- very creative from the rule writers.

There will be a little bit of luck (or bad luck) this year as well- there will be a fine balance between holding all 15kg and weight of the boomi. Teams will work to reduce the weight but still hold 15kg but there is a little bit of a "grey area" with balsa structures. There can be unforeseen weaknesses in the wood, a joint, etc that can always surprise a team. So, if the team has done all they can to reduce the weight to the minimum but still hold 15kg, it might only hold 15kg ~80% of the time, at best. This is definitely a risk/reward bonus which will be fun to watch.

i just realized that the 8 cm rule is 1 cm more than the limit of the wing chord from ws last year and that was hella wide so like how the frick...

Gap-filling cyanoacrylate glue will do you well. You might build your own test apparatus to test at home, but it can be simpler than the ones you'll see at competition that are provided by the tournament venue.

It's really thin and gets absorbed into the wood so all you need is one drop for a joint and it dries almost instantly. Make sure to wear goggles while using this stuff though.
