The tests is worth 30/138 points overall in the event, so basically anyone with a decently functioning device would beat someone just taking the test part.

Re: Detector Building C
I think the ban on prebuilt devices is really unclear. All analog-output devices are prebuilt right? I'm having trouble understanding how they would approve analog sensors.

Re: Detector Building C
Just checking, can we use an LCD display with an arduino or are we restricted to using a laptop or a calculator for the display?

Re: Detector Building C
I do not see any language within the rules that prevents the usage of an LCD display. I mean, one could argue that the computer has an LCD display.MTV<=>Operator wrote: ↑September 5th, 2019, 3:48 pm Just checking, can we use an LCD display with an arduino or are we restricted to using a laptop or a calculator for the display?

Re: Detector Building C
From my experience with this event, LCD displays are not prohibited, and are what many competitors use.LIPX3 wrote: ↑September 5th, 2019, 4:20 pmI do not see any language within the rules that prevents the usage of an LCD display. Re: Detector Building C
Thank you both. I was just unsure of this because I seem to recall the trial event rules specifically mentioning LCD displays

Re: Detector Building C
Does anyone have any idea when the examples for legal sensors other than thermistors will be put on soinc?

It may be referring to the list of legal and illegal sensors provided with last year's trial rules:
https://www.soinc.org/sites/default/fil ... ensors.pdf
I'm not entirely sure that the list is current and consistent with the 2019-20 rules, but from a glance (since I haven't reviewed the list since May) it looks like everything that was legal last year is legal this year.

Re: Detector Building C
On Amazon, there is an "Elegoo Starter Kit" which is basically the same as Arduino but a different name brand. Can I use that for the competition or are we restricted to using an Arduino/Raspberry Pi/TI Innovator microcontroller board?
