It's fun, but pointless as an S.O. event.

Our coach didn't let us practice. I didn't even know I was doing the event until 5 days before competition.

I'm sure it is fun, but in a competition that prides itself on raising the next generation of great scientists (not athletes), it is utterly worthless

agreed
even though i am athletic, i think it is unfair to others that arent, because most of us focus on school, not sports

It's one of those events stuck in there to level the playing field- it's not impossible for a team that otherwise does well to also do well in Pentathlon, but it's not much more likely that they'll do well in it than any other team that basically fails overall.

I believe pentathalon is a wonderful idea as it promotes physical health. As many of you probably already know exercise is good for your mind. Down with video games up with Pentathalon!!!! (sorry if this offends anyone but it is the truth)

You think doing 5 mins of exercise is going to save the future generation of scientists. Perhaps if this event was, oh, about 30 mins long 5 days a week that argument would hold a little more weight, but shooting 5 basketballs once a week isn't gonna save anybody from obesity.

There's other things that are being done to promote physical health. Science O shouldn't be part of that, as its main objective is to promote interest in science.
