Yep! All thermometers lean to the side, especially with the new larger hole this year. So when the thermometer is placed in the box, it will lean over. I was not there when the box was impounded, but I am guessing this is what happened since all three boxes measured <12cm with the thermometer vertical, but >12cm when leaning to the side. I hope that helps to clear it up :D

Any thoughts on the new cotton ball this year? imo I don't think it will make too much of a difference in the heat retention.

I think it will, I mean most of the heat loss is from the hole in the top.

The cotton ball works miracles. It has drastically changed predictions by at least 2*C.

Do you guys build the box out of the foam? If not, what material works best for the exterior of the box?

What cube are u talking about? Also as for your previous question yes, I built my box out of insulation foam. Try not to double post next time.
