The thing is, while the field guides contain a fair bit of info, they are inconsistent from entry to entry. It would be difficult, at best, to be competitive...

This is very true, they often leave out key specifics and are often times outdated when compared to the information you can gather yourself. But if your notes are not finished its better then nothing.

My bad. I never really used a field guide so I probably just skipped over that part in the rules.

Last year we were able to bring field guides instead of binders. It didn't say this on the actual rules itself, but the state allowed us to. Would this be able to be used again this year? Or do you recommend us not to? Of course, I used the better option and got a big binder and filled it with more information than the field guide has, but a few people I know were wondering this, and I want to make sure we're being correct here.

You will probably not be allowed to use field guides. You can of course three hole punch it into your binder, but that takes up space, and space is limited this year.

Thanks! I was assuming that was going to be the case. Just means we need to be more organised with how we use up space

I know sexual maturity is a very common topic in herpetology. I looked up two different species in a genus and found that they have different sexual maturities. What should I do in this situation?

I guess you should just write down both. I mean, they don't test on species, but sometimes there are notable characteristics of a species that maybe could show up on a test, and this seems to be one of them.
