It's obvious that Paolini is a young author. His ideas come from a wide variety of fiction books, and the Eragon books are strangely similar to the Lord of the Rings.

they're close to the Lord of the Rings, but they're almost exactly like the basic plot of the Wheel of Time books by Robert Jordan. all of the terminology is off by, like, a letter or two, and they have the same basic plot line (farm boy finds out that he's got hidden powers, the whole world has been waiting for his birth, he falls for a chick that refuses to be with him cuzshe doesn't want to "distract him from his purpose," big monster things that used to be friendly, the main character in the Wheel of Time is "The Dragon Reborn" while in Eragon, one of the main characters is a dragon, both are trying to find a secret hiding place/society) .....but the Wheel of Time is waaaaay better written- in my humble opinion.

p.s. my favorite book for the moment (it's hard to just have one) is The Host by Stephenie Meyer (Ian O'Shea!!!! that dude is amazing!!!)....or maybe Hunted by P.C. and Kristen Cast (James Stark.....just....*sigh*)

i think eragon is closer to star wars than lord of the rings...he really just took the star wars plot and moved it to a different world with different names...its almost exactly the same story...i know star wars is supposed to be an archetypally perfect story, but paolini seems to have just copied the star wars script

I haven't read the Wheel of Time, but from what I've heard, the first few are very good and then the ones later in the series get pretty bad- very verbose and formulaic. What did you think?

Theyre very unoriginal. But unfortunately, Im forced to buy the books just so I can see what happens. Stupid sequels.

That's what authors play off of. Eragon and Pendragon are series that I'll have to finish, even though they've gone on long enough.

He just based his characters off Lord of the Rings (Ex. Elves. The elves also have their own strange language. Urgals=Orks). It doesn't follow the story line, though.

i love the wheel of time...my older brother got me started on them. i think they're really well written, with a really good plot line. plus, the author always puts a glossary and pronunciation key in the back, which helps a lot! the first few were really good, the middle ones were good, and the last ones were kinda just meh. now though, with the author dead, his son is gonna write the last book. it just won't be the same....
