Yeah, the Armory's ceiling is ridiculously high, inflating all of the flight times. A couple other quick notes:
1. Stevenson's Regional time was not especially impressive, so the ceiling height might really make the difference.
2. It was possible to medal without all of the bonuses, so focusing on flight time alone doesn't capture the entire picture, necessarily.
3. The winning score appears in the vicinity of 500. I don't want to do the math to estimate the probable flight time , so...if that helps.

Daydreamer, our device planted itself onto the ceiling for about 2 minutes (30 seconds on the upward trip and 30 sec descent for 3 min total) so the top times did go all the way up but I did see a few that were around 1:45 with a no-touch flight hovering just below the girders of the ceiling.

It's totally fine, questions are always welcome!! Our team actually did happen to get one of our backup devices stuck in the girders during a practice flight before our scheduled timeslot but luckily the state supervisors had a balloon so that we could get our device out of the girders. Both of our official flights did touch the girders at some moment or another but ours is designed to do a quick reset and right itself so that it is flying again with in the intended configuration so it was able to stay upright and not get caught.

There were a few that did get stuck and time was stopped unfortunately for those teams It would kinda suck to spend 6 or so months preparing then have it come down to luck and if it gets stuck or not), but I do think that one team politely spoke with the judges and they may have been able to do a re-fly (not entirely sure on this, though, the judges were being pretty strict!!) The main thing I noticed on the flights that got stuck was that the competitors did not read the room very well so they just launched it in a random spot, but the top teams of course made sure to launch in the part where the helicopter would land on the ceiling with the least amount of obstructions, which for the most part seemed to work out well.

It's about a 3min time with all bonuses.

So... 185 sec (time) x 2.65 (bonuses) = 490.25 (actual score)

Does anyone know the best scores at the Michigan State competition? I know someone who got 2:00 with a Chinook. They said that they had all bonuses and no penalties, yet they were listed as 20th place. They were absolutely expecting a medal, so I'm sure they would like to know how the competition was. Maybe everyone was just that good...

While I have no idea what the scores were at Michigan State (sorry), I do know that from what I've seen around the forums and such that 2:00 seems about a benchmark for a competitive helicopter in the nation. However, I do know at least one team in Michigan was capable of 2:30ish times during the season and it's not hard to see that setting the tone for the rest of the teams.

Ah ok. The winning time from Ohio is going to remain classified until post-nationals . I will however share that mentor probably would've gotten third had their helicopter run the ~3 min that they were getting in practice

Oh well. Given Mason's performance at MIT for their Heli, my guess is that (assuming things don't happen) Solon and Mason will likely medal at Nats. What was the venue like, out of curiosity? And what happened to Mentor/Mason's helis?
