Hardest Science Olympiad Event, in your opinion?
Re: Hardest Science Olympiad Event, in your opinion?
Mission is the hardest to actually do, but fairly easy to medal in.
WIDI is the most unpredictable. I thought I did really well at Nats, ended getting really bad.
Towers is an easy event to participate in, but is realllllllly competitive and realllllllly hard to medal in.
I had alot of trouble with scrambler and how the car turned this year. Really annoying to test, but definetly not a hard event at all.

Yeah. Dang BUCKET!Matholy wrote: I had a lot of trouble with scrambler and how the car turned this year. Really annoying to test, but definitely not a hard event at all.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Scrambler's still my favorite event, though.

Which event do you think is the hardest?
I personally think Disease because the tests are so unpredictable that you don't know what's going to be on them so you have to study so many things.

Ehhhh I'd have to disagree. I can't count the number of times I've written out the 10 Steps to solving an outbreak, prevention of food borne illnesses, calculated odds ratios and relative risk, etc. In my experiences, once you've taken enough DD tests, it's pretty rare that you see new stuff, although it does happen. Although I would agree that it's not an easy event.Killboe wrote:I personally think Disease because the tests are so unpredictable that you don't know what's going to be on them so you have to study so many things.

I remember Air trajectory being incredibly difficult with many many hours of calibration and testing.
Problems are better pursued with General Electric GE90-115 engines.

In my own experience, Wind Power was a nightmare. I am NOT great at math, and there were so many calculations of different kinds at a level I'm not at, and it was a struggle for both me and my partner. Our build went okay after a few hiccups but we were just unable to make a good binder and we never did figure out how to do the math properly. I tend to steer clear of events with heavy math now.

Fast Facts looks like a nightmare to me. To be good at that event, you have to make and memorize a ridiculous amount of topics, each with 26 letters to learn! Keep in mind that you might not even be tested on those topics!
Mystery also seems pretty hard, the element of surprise makes it super easy to bomb the event. You could prep for hours, but if you show up at competition day and you build say a bridge a little too long, and it fails, you cost your team a lottttt of points.

Re: Hardest Science Olympiad Event, in your opinion?
Fast Facts can be difficult because you don't know what they're gonna ask, but it's not nearly as hard as some of the other events. I wouldn't say it's the hardest, especially in comparison to some of the other events, which can be crazy hard.
The hardest event I've ever done was probably Reach for the Stars last year, but it was also my favorite event so I enjoyed the challenge. Also, I did JV anatomy once this year as we needed a volunteer for one invitational, and that was really difficult.

To be fair, not all of them have 26 letters, and some topics overlapKylari04 wrote:Fast Facts looks like a nightmare to me.
