If you're replying to me, it didn't. Our experiment loosely followed the topic, but our coach didn't count it.TheChiScientist wrote:YIKES. How did that work out for you?

Re: Experimental Design B/C
Let's see, weirdest experiments...
* Haptics which ended up going quite well actually, and we've done it a few times successfully.
* The other day we had to do one on peripheral vision. Took us ages to come up with a statement of problem but it went fairly okay.
* Viscosity isn't exactly TOO weird, but it was still a heckuva hard experiment to pull off. One of our worst ones we've ever done.

Oof same on that viscosity problem.Got us a score of 107 thoughMissAmargasaurus wrote:Let's see, weirdest experiments...

Re: Experimental Design B/C
Making parachutes was definitely annoying and something, especially when I had to do procedure then. The parachute making costed a lot of time and a lot of tape and measuring to get right, but we pulled it off even after we realized we weren't doing the topic correctly.TheChiScientist wrote:I guess so.So I was wondering what was the weirdest experiment you guys had to conduct. I had one with Ph and I though we were given mainly physics topics.

Re: Experimental Design B/C
How closely to lab attire do we have to dress? Like do we need close-toed shoes, goggles, lab coats, etc?

Re: Experimental Design B/C
For division C (and this applies to division B as well), all you need is the proper goggles, which you can find clarifications for on soinc.org (eye protection type C). On the manual, it says that chemicals that require other safety clothing will not be used. If you have long hair, I would recommend putting it into a ponytail just in case. Experimental Design won't be involving any chemistry (if the proctor tests according to the rules), so you don't need any lab attire. Of course, if you want to wear these things just in case, there's no penalty.mymymy wrote:How closely to lab attire do we have to dress? Like do we need close-toed shoes, goggles, lab coats, etc?

Re: Experimental Design B/C
I've never heard of needing lab coats for experimental design. Goggles are VERY necessary though. Even if teams are taking them off, I would never risk that possibility of getting disqualified due to not wearing them. Closed toe shoes aren't required iirc but it really doesn't hurt to just wear a decent pair of tennis shoes, especially if you have other lab events anyway where you need those kinds of shoes. Just remember the goggles.mymymy wrote:How closely to lab attire do we have to dress? Like do we need close-toed shoes, goggles, lab coats, etc?

Re: Experimental Design B/C
Yes googles are a must yet I would not leave anything to chance so read the rules.

Re: Experimental Design B/C
Anyone here remembers if last year they had a requirement for long sleeves? I remember in ISO the ES said it was by national rules requirement last year.

Re: Experimental Design B/C
I don't know about Illinois specifically, but in the manual it says nothing about long sleeves, only goggles. It also says in the manual that chemicals requiring further safety equipment won't be used, but if you want to be safe you can wear long sleeves.TheChiScientist wrote:Anyone here remembers if last year they had a requirement for long sleeves?
