Is it Newton's Law of Cooling really that accurate? I've been estimating all my temperatures through a linear equation and its turned out alright so far.

I mean, if you are predicting your temperatures linearly, then it must be at least 5C off right? What I suggest you do is test for each water amount with a probe (your school probably has one) and use a program to graph it. Having a liner equation won't cut it because the temperature drops as a logarithmic curve.

I completely agree. The only way to make an accurate prediction is to test your device repeatedly and create graphs. Linear equations don't work for predictions.

So how many graphs do you think are good to have?

You should create a graph for every variable range you test (volume, temperature, etc.)

Btw I have had instances were 150ml of 85 C water beats out 150ml of 80 C water. Is this normal. And yes conditions are near identical in both cases. :?:

It honestly depends on your device. Also, if you don't let your device cool down between tests, it will become inaccurate.

Yea I guess it is strange so ill have to re run these tests. Doesn't help that I am in ISO were it is freezing all S.O season long. (also why we will NEVER do geocaching yet it somehow is a trial event every year  )

Actually, you could just make tables based on volume that run for about 150 mins each. This way you can use the table to predict the temperature more accurately and easily.
