Hovercraft B/C
Wood or metal studs for the track?
The rules state "standard 2x4 framing studs recommended." I see a lot of metal studs in pictures from other competitions.
Which is most common at competitions, metal or wood?
What are most people using in practice?

Question about volts, amps, charge
I'm not familiar at all with the concept of volts, amps, charge, etc. Can anyone explain these concepts and how they apply to hovercraft? Also, what type of battery should I use, and how many volts, amps, etc. should I use?

What type of fans should I use for lift and thrust?
What type of fans should I use for each lift and thrust? If possible, can anyone provide examples of those certain fans(like pictures, websties, etc.)?

We're using drone fans for both lift and thrust, works pretty well, but i recommend you experiment.geniusjohn5 wrote:What type of fans should I use for each lift and thrust? If possible, can anyone provide examples of those certain fans(like pictures, websties, etc.)?

Re: Question about volts, amps, charge
For battery, I definitely recommend anything but alkaline. I used that last year and it ran out of energy in 5 runs. Since Lithium isn't allowed, NiMH is a good bet, since it has a consistent energy discharge and is rechargeable.geniusjohn5 wrote:I'm not familiar at all with the concept of volts, amps, charge, etc. Can anyone explain these concepts and how they apply to hovercraft? Do you have a website link for those drone fans, in regards to where to buy them?Birdmusic wrote:We're using drone fans for both lift and thrust, works pretty well, but i recommend you experiment.geniusjohn5 wrote:What type of fans should I use for each lift and thrust? Are these types of fans ok? If they are, are they effective?

Re: Are these types of fans ok? If they are, are they effective?
I think the static pressure for the fan you linked is about 3.19 mmH2O, which is about 31 Pascals. If you're looking for a fan that can lift the hovercraft, these'll be too weak (pressure-wise)geniusjohn5 wrote:Are these types of fans ok? If they are, are they effective?

Re: Wood or metal studs for the track?
At every competition I went to last year, the same metal studs were used. We ended up buying the same ones for practice.DrDaveV wrote:The rules state "standard 2x4 framing studs recommended." I see a lot of metal studs in pictures from other competitions.

You should ask people on your team who competed last year. I doubt proctors would change the boundaries if they already had materials from last year.
