I suspect Mission will be task-based next year, but that's honestly just a wild guess. They do tend to change a lot, but of course techniques carry over.

What does task-based refer to and how would that be different from the last time it was run in C? I'm not really familiar with the event but I'm interested in taking it up.

Task-based would be as in 2011, where the rules specified certain specific tasks that needed to be completed for points. Often the rules also includes bonuses (not sure how they differ from regular tasks though). For example - convert circular motion to linear motion (2011), turn a screw to push an object (also 2011), tie and overhand knot in a shoelace (2005 bonus), use a balloon to lift an object, with points based on the mass of the object (2011 bonus -
some awesome stuff came of that).

Oh man that's amazing... Hopefully the rules committee will be able to give us another awesome challenge like that with mission next year Robot this year will be hard to follow, but I have faith

This is just speculation, but I'd expect a lot more questions about boiled potatoes with an internal temperature of 91 degrees Celsius...

Haven't seen any rules next year's for Thermodynamics but generally calculus is avoided on tests as it may be difficult for younger high schoolers who may have not taken the course.

If I'm writing a test, I'm less interested in your ability to solve questions using advanced math and more interested in seeing your ability to solve more complicated questions even when the math is simpler.

I'll have to look over the event and see how it works (what kind of room we need and when it can be scheduled for our invitational). I didn't really think it was in serious contention of becoming an event (though I guess I should have known, seeing as it was in New York this year).

Everything else seems to be as expected though. Looks like they're sticking with the two year rotation in Dynamic Planet. Also I think Physical Properties is a new topic for Chem Lab; I've never heard of it before.

Mystery Architecture is different. On site you're given a bunch of materials and you have to do something with them (build the tallest tower, widest bridge, raft that holds the most pennies, etc.)

Mystery Architecture is different. On site you're given a bunch of materials and you have to do something with them (build the tallest tower, widest bridge, raft that holds the most pennies, etc.)

This sounds like a trial event I did at Regionals in 6th except that went by the name of Mystery Engineering. Does anyone know if that is a separate event or is there just an ambiguous name for it?
