Iron (Fe), since it's such an important structural material. Also, there's a lot of science and finesse involved in getting iron to have the right properties (hardness, toughness, strength, corrosion resistance, etc.) through alloying, work hardening, and heat treatment.

Re: Favorite element?
Honestly, I'd say one, but I feel like all of the ones I'd say Argon.
(But actually though, I'm a fan of noble gases, especially Argon because punz.)

Re: Favorite element?
ANTIMONY! I always liked the weird letters-don't-make-sense elements.
Also, the abbreviation for antimony is Sb, "Antimony sounds like "Anthony," and Susan B. Anthony's first and middle names abbreviate to Sb. Too funny!
