Maximum lift we found is low slack, almost completely taught with a thousand pores poked by a needle.

Are you using the same fan most of the people on the forums are using? I got it to work, using a lot of holes on the bottom, but I was only able to support 1 kg or so.
When you have your skirt, is it unsupported, or is there a layer of foam or something similar giving it more shape? I'm wondering it that's my issue.

Yea we have the blower fan ~1000 pa from digikey that we used at Loyola. As for supports, we have plastic supports to raise the base about half an inch from the ground. Then we put the skirt taught around there, so there is ample room to create that air cushion. Our skirt design isn't slow enough, so we're looking at how to reduce speed

Buy better stuff. > CFM = > speed. But, then you need to worry about accuracy and slowing it down. You'll do great. Digikey has a good selection of even higher CFM fans, albeit they are expensive.

Tenergy usually makes good products. Get one with a high mAh rating and you'll be fine.

Fans with high CFM from Digikey should work. Any fan with > 200cfm should be fine. Getting a hovercraft to go fast is easy; getting the craft to move slowly is the hard part.

First of all, it's not all about the motors, It's the skirt. I'm telling you right now, max lift is not taut, with a bunch of holes (like an airhockey table). I have won my region using a... much more... confidential design. Unless you are using a CD motor, you can lift 2 kg with the right skirt. At my peak lift, my vehicle hovers half an inch off the ground, and the fastest time was 1.17 seconds. Good luck to all of you, I shouldn't reveal more than that....
