I'd guess that it would be strongest intensity again, but it would be up to the discretion of the ES. It's happened to me several times in practice, and we've generally just gone by intensity, though of course that's far from official.

As always, this is not the place for official comments or statements... soinc.org FAQ process is for that. Unofficially, I've heard of this happening at least twice in competitions this year. My advice to the ES in both situations was to utilize the resulting beam that most closely mimics the expected behavior of a laser interacting with a mirror (i.e. if it had bounced off the mirror in the normal sense), even if that is the less intense beam.Bob_117 wrote:I know nothing here is official, but what do y'all think would happen if the laser just nicks the back of a mirror so that half of the beam hits the target and the other half hits the back of a mirror? For what it's worth, I used this when I was making my own LSS. My interpretation is that you need to know what color something might appear/filter out based off of absorption spectra. For example: If the absorption spectrum of a dye has peaks at about 450 nm and about 700 nm, that means that it's filtering out (roughly, doing this off the top of my head) red and blue, so therefore if one were to shine a white light on this dye it should appear green. I haven't been able to find any good sources for the films chemicals and dies section of the absorbtion spectra topic, does anyone have good sources they know of or general inforation?

I'm interested in checking this again a little later in the season- what type of scores are people averaging on the LS? Additionally, how difficult has the barrier mirror typically been for you? i.e. at a convenient 45° angle vs. 180° away from the laser.

The people doing it on my team are able to get close to a perfect score almost every time (all 5 mirrors + barrier mirror + very accurate). It's just the test that kills us....

Does anyone know what a minimum dispersion angle is? (not minimum deviation). it came up on a test we took

How are some of you able to get the barrier mirror? Since it can be placed at any angle, isn't it impossible to use?
