Wait, you're not allowed to wear shorts into Exp Des? This is my 3rd year doing the event and I've worn shorts to it multiple times, including at Nats.

I would've worn shorts if it was warm enough!

It's always warm enough for shorts.
My original question stands: Is it really against the rules to wear shorts in that event?

Darling, have you been to Minnesota? There is a line! As in response to your question, probably. The experiment could deal with chemicals.

I'm fairly certain there aren't any clothing requirements for ExpDes. To be fair, I normally wore pants anyways because of Crime.

CONTEXT: The experiment was based entirely around HCl, so the proctor thought it was inappropriate to be wearing shorts

If that was the case, the proctor probably should've read the event parameters in the rules: "Students must bring goggles... Chemicals that require other safety clothing will not be used."

That makes so much sense. It's better to be DQ'ed than end up in a hospital with chemical burns.

I'd recommend wearing chem clothing just in case, since even though it's spelled out in the rules there will probably be a few event supervisors that ignore it and use chemicals anyway.

While this does make sense in this context, I still don't believe that this should have caused you to be almost DQed or drop in rankings. That was the event supervisor's fault, not yours.
